Pirate Bay may have some hope after all.  I’m sure they had some cards up their sleeves that were still to come in order to deal with their sentence.  However, this little gem just dropped into their lap.  Apparently the judge might be a little biased as far as the case goes.  He’s a part of a couple of organizations that might sway his opinion a bit as far as the judgment goes.  Those being the Swedish Copyright Association as well as the Swedish Association for Industrial Property.

The judge has of course been criticized for even taking the case to begin with.  His response to that is, “My view has been that these activities do not constitute a conflict of interest”.  All of this means that Pirate Bay’s lawyers will have to move fast if they intend to go for a retrial.  If a retrial is done, it could mean that Pirate Bay could get out of their current jail sentence as well as the massive fine hanging over their heads.  Although thus far they still say they won’t be paying the fine anyway.  It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out and how it will influence downloading illegal copies around the world.
