Meet John McCain, Innovator of Modern Technology

johm maccain technologyHave you heard the news? John McCain helped invent the BlackBerry.

It’s true. He may be less tech-savvy than a (non-lipstick-wearing) pig at George Bush’s farm, but an advisor to the presidential candidate has claimed McCain “helped create” telecommunications. Holding his own BlackBerry in the air during an event Tuesday, top economic advisor Douglas Holtz-Eakin apparently stated:

“Telecommunications of the United States is a premier innovation in the past 15 years, comes right through the Commerce committee. So you’re looking at the miracle John McCain helped create.”

“That’s why he refers to it as the ‘talky box machine’ — that’s what he had originally wanted to name it,” Holtz-Eakin did not add.

Canadian-based Research In Motion, which has until now been credited with the device’s creation, has intelligently avoided commenting.

The McCain campaign, for its part, has since suggested the remark was a joke. Only TechCult, however, has obtained a statement directly from the senator himself.

“Of course it was a joke,” he told us telepathically over tea. “There’s no way any man could seriously say he invented a fruit.”

Barack Obama, meanwhile, is rumored to be working on a counterclaim that he invented Al Gore.
