Regarding the Bad Company situation, Microsoft way out did them with NT 4 (and probably the OSs since then). The difference between the ’server’ and ‘workstation’ versions was max RAM, server capabilities, etc. was simply a secret registry setting. There was no real difference, just the charged you to ‘unlock’ it by paying for a license.

You forgot the Phantom game console. Millions were pumped into that and we never saw the console. In fact we still haven’t seen the lapboard. I dunno why ppl keep investing in it.
