I’m not one of the many that’s fascinated by 3-D movies and actually I truthfully avoid most movies that I hear are going to be presented in only 3-D. Which makes the fact that I’m not even going to bother with getting 3-D TV far from surprising. However, I was a little surprised that one study reported that I am far from being the only one that’s not thrilled over 3-D TV. It’s not necessarily that they don’t like watching 3-D, but more because they didn’t like the technology it requires.

Nielsen did a study that focuses on the 3D TV experience and got 425 people involved. They were all given glasses and asked to watch 30 minutes of 3-D television. Half of them complained that the glasses themselves were just uncomfortable. A hefty 89% complained that they make it hard to multitask, which is annoying for those of us that like to do other things while watching TV. Then to finish it off they weren’t happy over the multiple 3D technologies. If you take your Sony glasses over to watch your friend’s 3-D Samsung TV it won’t work. All around it sounds like if they don’t start working out some issues people are going to get fed up and just not bother with 3D TV. Then again more than half of the people involved with the study were impressed by the quality of 3-D images.

That one little detail is that men and boys are out of luck. This is a store for only the women of the world. It’s even posted directly at the the door that no men are allowed. Within the store are different rooms, some set up like a living room and others like a bedroom. It’s meant to make women feel free to release some of that tension. The store is full of second-hand TVs and mobile phones.

First there are robots with knives, now they’re giving robots a whole new level of power. The power to wed couples. Tomohior Shibato and Satoko Inoue opted to be married by a robot. Not just any robot, but one charmingly named i-Fairy. Yes, they even went as far as to get married by a fairy robot. Of course this was done in Japan, so it’s hard telling if anyone in the rest of the world could legally be wed by a robot.

If it could be made possible for the rest of us, it’s clearly what the whole world wants and needs. Who wouldn’t want to be married by a robot that sounds like it’s doing baby talk?! Hey, at least it’s looking very festive with the flowers draped all about its head. This stuff always seems to happen in Japan.

This should probably win some kind of award for being the creepiest thing any school corporation has been caught doing. It’s also a situation of a school with the best of intentions doing something horribly wrong. A school district issued MacBooks to their students and then proceeded to take 56,000 photos over a period of 2 years. This was all done through the student’s MacBooks and without their knowledge. Now according to them it wasn’t done to spy on their students or anything remotely that devious. Instead they probably just had some horribly awful advice from a very clueless IT guy.

As strange as it sounds they were actually flipping on the cameras to find lost MacBooks. When students lost track of their laptop, the school would just turn on the camera to help them get an idea on the location. The bad part is that sometimes the camera would be left on for a week before realizing that it was still on. Now the school says that nothing inappropriate was within these images, so in the end no real harm was done. It’s just incredibly creepy. Hopefully in the future the schools will start using a different method to locate the MacBooks.

Microbiologists at the University of Colorado have been up to their ears in keyboards covered in all sorts of bacteria and germs. Which is a job I’m not sure I could get paid enough to do. Everyone’s aware of all of the germs that sit in your keyboard. Well they decided to study all of that bacteria and it turns out they can pinpoint who the keyboard belongs to by analyzing their bacterial DNA.

They’re actually hoping to someday use the bacterial fingerprints that people leave on their keyboards to help law enforcement. The tricky part is that right now they can’t prove one way or the other that the bacterial fingerprint doesn’t change over time. Who knew that all those dropped crumbs could actually result in someone connecting you to a keyboard?!

I’ve always talked to my cars and once I had a computer of my own, well I talked to that too. Then again, I talk to my dog on occasion too. I’m much worse with cars than I am with computers though. I apologize to the car when I hit a bump too hard, mostly because I’m praying that I didn’t do any damage. I know I’m not the only one who does goofy things along those lines, but apparently one study had to pick those of us apart that talk to random objects.

Harvard University psychologists did a study on anthropomorphise to be specific. Which means to see human characteristics in things that have none. Apparently when we’re deprived of connections with other humans we’ll form connections with non-humans. Which means those of you that find yourself talking too much to your computer, might want to take a breather from it and go hang out with a few of your friends.

It’s always an issue worrying about how you’re going to fit all of your gadgets into your pockets. Well now the iPad makes it even more difficult. Thankfully someone has thought ahead and constructed a pair of jeans to accommodate the size of the iPad. Okay, so no one actually created the product, but the picture is enough to keep you amused.

Recently someone made a comment that you can’t watch the Super Bowl on a TV screen any larger then 55 inches. Well, as it turns out there is a grain of truth behind their statement. It’s actually laid out in Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 110 called “limitations on exclusive rights: exemption of certain performances and displays”. Yes, they do even mention the specific size of 55 inches. However, it sort of depends on where exactly that big screen TV is located.

It states that you cannot view TV broadcasts and movie showings on a TV with the diagonal measurement of 55 inches or larger. There also cannot be more than 6 loudspeakers. Don’t worry though, there are other details. Despite that yes that is a law, as long as you’re safely within your own home and not charging admission you’ll be just fine. Now charging admission to view it on a massive screen within your hometown high school’s gym, that would be frowned upon. Who knew something as simple as a Super Bowl party could have restrictions?!

Depending if you’re more of a technology enthusiast or a music enthusiast you’ll either find this to be incredibly cool or a musical abomination. One of the two. A group of students at the University of Michigan take classes from the instructor Georg Essl. In that class they’re learning the art of building, designing and playing the iPhone as a music instrument. Anyone feel sorry for the parents paying for a class that will at best give their kids a skill to show off at the water cooler once they’re in the real world?

Well they decided to have a show and they will be performing their iPhone orchestra at a public concert on December the 9th. To some this might be a huge technological achievement, but I can definitely see several classical music enthusiasts getting a bit annoyed. Wrong or right it is neat to hear about someone finding a new way to entertain the public with music. Even if you are paying hard earned cash to watch a bunch of kids play with their iPhone. You can check out a video of one of their older concerts by going here.

True geeks can never do anything in a normal manner. We have to have geeky coffee cups and geek themed cuff links, so why would our deaths be any different? I have heard of a couple slightly geeky ways to leave this world, but this one tops them all. Alan decided that he wanted to be buried in a SPARCstation CPU case. He’s of course cremated, they didn’t just strategically fold him up in order to fit him inside. Being buried in a computer case is probably one of the most original and nerdy things to do.

Of course according to the family, it seemed to fit his life after he spent years in a cubicle. The family have had the case engraved with his name and the years of his life. Which oddly they blurred out the year he was born. To make it an even more complete funeral, the family has left little notes on Post-It notes for their deceased loved one. If they didn’t want the note shared with anyone, they just had to fold it up and drop it in the floppy slot. The Post-It notes on the outside will be sealed and protected with some plastic. The daughters of the deceased like the case and all the notes so much now that they don’t really want to bury it. This is an odd way to go, but you might as well do it your way.
